Default Wi-fi Ok at home but fails at free wi-fi shop

What am I missing?
My Wi-fi works perfectly at home but when in my coffee shop which has
free wi-fi nothing updates. Wi-fi in settings seems to show that I am
connected to the appropriate service.

Click forget, and let it find it again. Then try reset network settings
to default. If that doesn't work then reboot device.

Despite being advertised as "free", many such places make you buy a cofee
or whatever and then give you a time-limited password. Without the
password, you can't use their network.

If it is actually a free network, then it could be overloaded with lots of
people downloading massive movies, etc. or has limits for each users
bandwidth.

Usually, they advertise it as being free to customers. If you don't buy
something from them, you're not a customer.

It is very common to find that a login is required to use the WiFi. As
some others have mentioned, the login sometimes requires a password.
Most of the places I frequent do NOT require a password, but DO require
a login. Just open Safari to view the login page, accept the terms of
service, then close Safari and do whatever else you planned.

Yes - that was it.
It's now sorted.
