ral-134752333.html> The*Westboro Baptist Church*took to an*iPhone*when they heard about*Steve Jobs’ death*Wednesday night,*sending out a message*saying the*Apple*founder would be going to hell and calling for a protest of his funeral. “Westboro will picket his funeral. He had a huge platform; gave God no glory and taught sin,” wrote*Margie Phelps, daughter of the church’s founder. The controversial group often pickets outside of soldiers’ funerals to draw media attention to their cause, which includes anti-gay material. Phelps*tweeted the messages from her account, with an automatic note appearing at the bottom of the Tweet saying “via Twitter for iPhone.” “No peace for man who served self, not God,” she wrote with the hashtag, #hellgreetedhim. “Westboro must picket.” Thursday morning, Phelps responded to widespread criticism of her using the iPhone to Tweet the messages, saying that the phone was created by God–not Jobs–for that purpose. “Rebels mad cuz I used iPhone to tell you*Steve Jobs*is in hell.God created iPhone for that purpose! ” she wrote. Arrangements for Jobs’ funeral haven’t been announced. -- Tea Party Patriots is to Patriotism as People's Democratic Republic is to Democracy. |

Nice to know which side of the fence she's on. > Arrangements for Jobs funeral havent been announced. > > -- > Tea Party Patriots is to Patriotism as > People's Democratic Republic is to Democracy. |

It's assholes like these that give those of us right of center a bad rap. Someone should go to one of their meetings taser them all. I'm all for freedom of speech, but when it is for publicity at the expense of others, it has exceeded acceptable boundaries. |

That's true, man! Conservatism is one vital pole in the American experiment, Liberalism being the other. The creative tension between those two is what has made America what it is (for both good and ill). Unfortunately some folks- usually at the extremes- think their side should unequivocally "win." > Someone should go to one of their meetings taser them all. Don't waste it living someone else's life. Steve Jobs 1955-2011 |

That's like calling Pol Pot a communist. Who cares what he's he calling himself. You murder millions you're political philosophy doesn't interest me. Granted Westboro Baptist Church hasn't murdered anyone. But their actions and speech are so offensive that it's hard to say they belong to any part of any political spectrum except, possible, the loony band. Which, despite being sometimes subdivided into left and right, is probably better characterized a one demented clump. |

They hate gays, they're right wing, and it does matter, because it shows just how far to the right you can get in this country, as opposed to the fact that most of what we call the "left" is really pretty moderate centrist. There is no left in the USA anymore, McCarthy made sure of that. It's part of the problem, we have no real "left", as in socialist, party or movement to offset the extreme right that is so prevelent these days. That's what the Occupy Wall St demonstration is about, though even they dare not couch it in those terms, and I doubt that many of them think of it that way. It's unAmerican to be socialist and to advocate for some controls over the big corporations and the ultra-rich. We're just supposed to wish we were one of them so we can be above criticism and control too. |
