back when Apple announced iOS 5, there was some mention of twitter
integration.

I am at 5.01 and haven't seen any "twitter integration". I still have
the original separate twitter application from the itunes store and it
works the same.

So what has changed , and are there examples where I could see that
twitter integration ?

Tap the sharing button in most applications and you will see a button
that allows you to share to Twitter. That's it.
