Tethering in Canada
Good day and thanks to all who mentioned tethering when I asked about
jailbreaking my iPhone so I could use it to connect my MacBook Pro to
the net. I thought I'd post this so anyone else who may be wondering
about the current status of our profiders in Canada might know what they
can do. I'm with Rogers and they require that the data portion of your
iPhone be at least 1 gig--it cost me only $5 extra to have my 500 meg
plan upgraded. I hung up after odering the change, checked "My Rogers"
online about five minutes later and the 1 gig limit was active. I
plugged the iPhone into my USB port, turned the phone on and opened
General, went to network and, voila, tethering showed up as an option, I
clicked it and had the choice of USB or Bluetooth, I selected USB and
closed it. On my laptop, I opened the network settings and the clicked
on the iPhone, it refreshed, showed the IP address and the connection
was made! There was no problem at all and any of you who have read my
requests for help know I'm WAY short of being anything close to a techie
so the old "If I can do it, anyone can" certainly applies. Seriously,
it was very quick to get it done and as simple as it could be.
I can't add anything about Telus or Bell but as we all know our three
providers generally play follow the leader so if they don't have
tethering for the iPhones, chances are they'll add it soon.
Again, I can't thank those of you who suggested tethering enough for
saving me the time and trouble of going through the Jailbreak thing when
all I wanted to do was be able to use the existing iPhone account to
connect my laptop!!
