Default Tethering and battery

I've just setup my iPhone for tethering my MacBook Pro and, being
totally new to this sort of thing, I have no idea whether or not it's
something always working in the background and drawing power begging the
question: when I'm not actually tethering the laptop, should I turn
tethering off on the iPhone or does it make any difference to my battery
life?

Thanks,
Tim

No difference at all if you only have USB tethering enabled. It just
allows tethering to become active when the iPhone is plugged into the
computer. If the cable is not connected, it isn't doing anything and
isn't wasting power looking for a connection.

If you have Bluetooth enabled, then if tethering is enabled the iPhone
will be advertising its tethering connection via Bluetooth, but I expect
that uses a miniscule amount of additional power, completely drowned out
by having Bluetooth on in the first place.

Thanks much...I didn't think it would as I use the USB but thought there
might be some sort of activity going on behind the scenes. This area is
TOTALLY new to me so I decided to be safe rather than sorry even if it
confirmed that I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer!! ;-)

Note: If you are jail broken and using MyWi to do 802.11 tethering, it
will run your battery down more quickly. So it's best to turn that off
as soon as you are done using it.
