Default So, what's the future hold for Apple?

The media tells us that Steve Jobs was the be-all, end-all creative force
behind Apple's flood of innovative products and services over the past
several decades.

Now that he's gone, what's to become of Apple?

That really depends on whether another creative gadget would appear. I
would equate the current state of Apple to the old days of Nokia.

The media is wrong. Or rather, you are wrong about the media.

<http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/10/06/apple_university_revealed_as_plan_to_teach_executi ves_to_think_like_steve_jobs.html>

I hope this works out. The product design principles are the easy part.
You can teach the value of simplicity, quality, and perfection.

Can you teach the other stuff? The history of Apple is based on Jobs
looking at technologies and products that other companies had been
unsuccessful at developing and marketing and recognizing the potential
for a properly designed, manufactured, and marketed product using those
technologies. Look how many failed attempts there were at tablets.

Besides the physical products, how many people could have convinced the
music industry to sell songs individually for 99 cents? Of course at the
time the alternative for the music industry was getting 0 cents for each
song.

Apparently whatever the media tells you will become of it.

They'll go back to being a new product dependent tech company, just like
all the rest are. If you stand still, todays WOW stuff becomes doorstops in
a year or 2.

Pardon my english. "innovative" is more appropriate than "creative".

He certainly was all that. I'll bet that for every iPad, iPhone or iPod,
there are 10 or 20 iCups, iBrooms and iPretzels that Jobs rejected. And for
each of those sucessful devices, there are 10 or 20 prototypes that he
rejected because they weren't "right". I don't care how many brilliant
teachers you bring in from big name universities, you can't teach what
Steve Jobs did. Do you think that a team could have been created to follow
Leonardo Da Vinci to continue his scientific and artistic achievements
after his death? Einstein?

The upward trajectory he created will continue for a while, then arc over,
and Apple will be another hi-tech company, pretty much like the others,
except they'll be able to point back to this era. This is the beginning of
the end of this era for Apple. Sorry to say.

The media are fools - never ever believe what they tell you.

Steve Jobs had an amazing ability to understand what people wanted (even
when they didn't yet know themselves), but he's far from the only creative
person at Apple.

Apple will continue to be creative and innovative, but we may also get
more "less inspired" products also being released with someone new giving
the final "yes" or "no".

According to a Daily Mail story (for what that's worth) via MacRumors.com,
Steve Jobs had already laid out the at least rough roadmap for the next
four years worth of products ...

And the Daily Mail reports that Jobs is claimed to have left
behind four years' worth of product plans across Apple's
product lines, leaving the company well-stocked as it looks
toward the future.

He has also been overseeing the development of
the delayed iCloud project, which will allow
Apple users to store their music, photos and
other documents remotely and masterminding
updated versions of the iPod, iPad, iPhone
and MacBooks, ensuring at least four years
worth of products are in the pipeline,
according to Apple sources.

Those designs will obviously have to evolve to respond to
the changing technological and competitive landscape, but it
is clear that Jobs was looking toward the future up until
the very end, leaving behind a legacy of focus on design and
a company culture infused with the ideals to carry that
legacy forward into the future.

Using current release trends and depending on when those "four years"
start, it would possibly bring Apple up to about the iPhone 6S and the
iPad 6:

Year 0 2011 iPhone 4S iPad 2
Year 1 2012 iPhone 5 iPad 3
Year 2 2013 iPhone 5S iPad 4
Year 3 2014 iPhone 6 iPad 5
Year 4 2015 iPhone 6S iPad 6
