A friend dropped in for a beer and mooched some supper last night.

At one point he brought out his new 4S to demonstrate Siri.

Out of 10 tries on different items it performed perfectly ONCE, and
imperfectly on another item ONCE.

Laughed my ass off.

Everyone's mileage varies. Maybe it was the beer. Maybe it was "eh?"
Maybe it was "a boat." Here it rhymes with "a doubt."

I use Siri regularly--more than I thought I would--and I would estimate
it gets it right on the first try 80% of the time. Include re-phrased
questions and it approaches 100%.

Disclaimer: One person I know counts every negative response "There are
no Albanian-Zimbabwean restaurants that serve terrine de foie autruche
in your area" as a Siri failure. I count that as a success,
disappointing though the lack of such restaurants may be.

When I began to use Siri I would sometimes double-check negative
answers with a Google search. I soon realized that was pointless.

The 'demo' was during beer #1. After which, we switched to wine.

'eh' is a rest-of-Canada affectation not often heard in Quebec - except
maybe some west island areas of Montreal.

We were at the far end of the stats last night.

On her bad days, Siri is a PITA! But who isn't?

I use it every day, probably a dozen or so times. I use it to check the
weather, make calls, play music and just play around with. There are
definitely days when she's, well, having female problems. That said, when I
have good reception, and the servers aren't overloaded, she works very well
for a beta. I don't expect more. YMMV.

Please don't tell me that they did Siri so well that it has bad days
every 28 days ?

I wish. Siri's not on a lunar cycle, more like weekly.

Probably due to your Canadian accents.

In the US I encounter more variation in accents than here.

eg: Louisiana, South Carolina, NYC, Joisy, etc.

Your comment has zero effect on my statement.

When they did the latest update on the iPhone OS, I looked at the
reasons for the update. Various bug fixes, etc., but one of the reasons
was to upgrade Siri's understanding of Aussies.
