Doubt it. If you were on Mac OS X, you could simply look in your key
chain. I'm not sure if iOS uses a key chain like Mac OS X.

Since the phone connects successfully even after a cold boot,
the key has to be stored somewhere. Therefore an app to fetch it
is possible. Probably requires jailbreak, though.

Right. I never said it is impossible.

try iphone backup extractor and peruse the files. it's definitely there
since restoring a new device will have the old network names &
passwords.

No it won't. When you restore from backup, all the passwords (wifi,
email, etc) are lost.

In my experience, they are definitely lost. I have no idea why my
experience differs from yours, but it has been 100% consistent for me.

i don't know either, but when i upgraded to a new phone it connected
without having to enter in the wifi password which was nice because
it's a pain to type. on the other hand, i had to re-login in a bunch of
apps which was a royal pain in the butt.
