Default O/T Apple TV

So the new Apple TV is launched at a price of $99 (or £64 at current
exchange rate). What is the price in the UK?

And how much of that difference is made up by the UK's VAT? The US price
is before taxes...

How much of that extra $53 is VAT?

£84.26 + £14.74 VAT = £99

The base price is still 130USD give or take the exchange rate when you
check...

Worse than Canada's 119CAD (113USD), but there may be other duty or
import taxes/fees hidden.

Interesting that VAT is included but Canadian taxes aren't disclosed
until much later in the purchase process.

A lot depends on local laws. As I understand it, advertised prices in the
UK must include VAT. In the US (and maybe in Canada), the advertised price
is the pre-tax price. That makes sense for the USA because the sales tax
varies by state and sometimes by city. It may be the same in Canada.

Yeah, I understand this part.

The weird part is that the order process doesn't actually tell you the
amount of tax you'll pay, you have to wait until a confirmation email
later to see the final dollar value.

Not a big deal, but Canadian tax is pretty straightforward, with less
than 12 zones.

Strange. The US store shows the sales tax before you commit the order.

I don't think Apple will ever produce a "wow" product for Apple TV.

Apple's relationship with the MAFIAA would prevent it from making the
device that people want. One that can play any type of media, record
stuff etc. (aka: deal with non DRM media and do the unthinkable: record
shows from satellite receivers etc via RGB/composite inputs.

Apple, Adobe, and others have a known bad habit of simply swapping the US
dollar symbol for a UK pound symbol. :-(
