Default No siri on older iPhones (eg. iPhone4)

According to a blog reporting feedback from Apple,

Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:
Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support
older devices.

Found via Google News and a link to this:

It wouldn't be a surprise - Apple wants us to buy new iPhone 4S.
But it's unfortunate for those of us with iPhone4 devices,
especially those of us whose purchase was recent enough that
we're still under contracts...

Everyone in the USA who bought an iPhone 4 under contract is still under
contract.

Funny how when we buy a new tv, and a few months later they come out with a
newer better one, no one complains that they didn't get all those new
features added on to their old one for free, or even a nominal charge. Same
with a car. Same with a dishwasher. Why is it that with a cell phone,
everyone expects that they'll get all the new features when a new one comes
out? I guess maybe those that bought iPhone 4 a few months ago hadn't heard
that Apple updates them once a year or so. I could have bought an iPhone 4
back in June, when I was using a lousy flip phone, but I waited until now
because I didn't want to be where they are now.

I just don't understand those who bought a new iPhone a few months ago
because they wanted in NOW are now complaining that they can't have the new
features of a 4S NOW. Only in America.

You think that no one in countries other than the USA is making the same
complaint?

Newer internet connected TVs do have a "firmware upgrade" menu option :-)

Since I don't live it, or have regular contact with anyone who lives
outside the US, I don't know for sure. I do know that we are famous, more
so than any other country on earth, for being spoiled by our technological
toys and constantly complaining that they don't do more, rather than being
grateful for what they can do right now. In most of the world, smartphones
aren't available to anyone because there's no infrastructure to support
them. I do know that, in Mexico, they regard us as spoiled children.

Yes, and soon they'll be bitching about not getting all the newest
technology that they aren't getting.

So by "only in America" you actually meant "only in wealthy countries."

I read that Siri has been successfully ported to a 3Gs. So it CAN work if
they wanted to offer it.
