Or will it get permanently stuck with whatever "SMS goes the wrong person, hope your boss likes love-letters" bug is discovered next? No, Apple isn't immune to this stupidity, but at least you're more or less guaranteed to get updates for a reasonable amount of time without having to beg your carrier. -- It's always darkest before dawn. Yep. Android has inherited the "Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance" upgrade model from the old Windows Mobile (ancient American Baseball reference, sorry!) MS would release a new revision, which then went to the device manufacturer for customization, who then handed it off to the mobile operator for testing and approval. Now it's Google using that same update model and has discovered, like MS before them, that neither the manufacturer nor the operator have any desire or incentive to upgrade existing devices, since their business model is predicated on selling new ones. In a decade of using WinMo devices, I don't think any device I ever owned got more than one OS upgrade (usually only a dot revision) and many never received any. Most Android devices have an equally abysmal track record. In contrast, I'm pretty happy with WP7 in that respect. My HD7 has received three updates since it was released, taking it from what seemed like a 0.8 or 0.9 beta, all the way to a 1.0! ![]() |

Motorola Razr vs iPhone 4S ----------------------------------------------------------- How does Motorola's RAZR square up to its iOS foe? It's closer than we first thought. ... Verdict Our hands-on time with the RAZR (minus Ice Cream Sandwich, for now) will give us more of an idea of how much we want one but already Motorola has unleashed an impressive spec sheet on us. It matches the iPhone 4S on performance, camera and build and edges ahead with its superior battery life and bigger screen. So if your feet are firmly planted on Android's soil, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus isn't your only top-end option this year.
