All my IPhones have been jailbroken for years. Many of my 7-8th grade
students do it themselves, without any idea of what they are doing. Not one
problem in 3 years. In my opinion there's 2 ways to go about it. GOOGLE,
read, make your choice, and take full responsibility. The other way is get
someone else to do it for you, probably for a small fee.

The application is called MiWi. Once you've jail broken the device,
you'll be able to purchase MiWi from within Cydia for a small fee
(sorry, can't remember how much it was). IME, it's a bit buggy, in that
sometimes it doesn't work correctly. You may find yourself turning it on
and off, or restarting the phone occasionally before it actually works
correctly. Other than that small issue, when it works, it works well. We
used it to give our WiFi iPad access to the internet in the car a few
times, and it was great!
