Default My new iPhone 4 has NO grip of death

Just recvd my shiny new iPhone 4.

Try as I might I cant get the signal strength to fall when held in the "grip
to death".
I have held it nice and tight in a sweaty hand with no bumper and no drop at
all!

I am on Vodafone in the UK if that make any difference.

Depends on what you want to believe. I certainly believe he can't get the
signal strength "bar" indicator to change. Unless he hacks the phone like
Anandtech did, we'll never know if he can get the signal strength itself to
fall.

Certainly- coverage might be so stellar that even Anandtech's measured 24db
drop doesn't move the phone from 5 bars to 4.

true but bars don't matter. call drops do.

maybe, or maybe that at&t sucks. at&t has a call drop rate 3 times
higher than verizon and the lowest customer satisfaction of all four
carriers in the usa, tying t-mobile.

do you have a photo camera with macro lens? take a snap of the
"dangerous" area bottom left of device (some rumors say the antenna now
is galvanized to have a non conductive surface)

Bars don't matter... until you don't have any, that is.

One could argue, then, that AT&T is the worst place for a phone that can
lose 96% of its signal if you touch the wrong spot...

Maybe "anodized" - - but good try.

How long did you hold it for? The other possibility is that people's
skin conductance are different.

..good point... but there may be more than one other possibility

..better to say "another possibility"

Which basically proves Steve Jobs' point - there's nothing actually wrong
witht eh iPhone 4 design, but the "problem" SOME people have is simply
because they're holding it wrong. :-)

The "problem" seems to occur more for left-handed people because it's their
palm that falls over the "gap" rather than an easily moved finger.
