iTunes slow at start
Since upgrading my iDevices to 5.x, I have noticed that iTunes is
unusably slow while it establishes communications with the devices.
Anyone else having this problem? We have an iPad 1, an iPhone 4, and
an iPhone 4S. All software is the latest release (10.5.2.11 for
iTunes and 5.0.1 for all the iDevices). The devices are set to backup
to iCloud and sync via wifi and all those features seem to be working
normally.
I do not run iTunes running 24/7, so when I do start it, it has to
find the devices. That usually takes about a minute or two during
which time iTunes seems to ignore user input. It acts as though
something is using 100% of the CPU, but task manager says that is not
the case. After the device symbols change from the rotating arrows to
the normal symbol, everything is back to normal human interface wise,
but that first minute or two is annoying. I usually start iTunes to
play music. As an example of when I notice the problem, if I click
play when iTunes first starts, realize the volume is too loud, and
click pause, the pause click might be ignored for 5 or 10 seconds. If
it happens to be 6:00 am and my wife is still sleeping, that can be
really annoying. For another example, if the PodCast page starts
downloading new PodCasts during this time, they often time out and
fail. A few minutes later, they can be downloaded with no errors.
Any ideas? (BTW, this is on a Windows Vista x64 machine with plenty
of RAM).
