and the 3g, 3gs and ipod touch 2g or later. it just has to be set up
with an iphone 4, ipad or 4th gen ipod touch.

Find My iPhone is free for anyone with an iPhone 4, iPad, or 4th
generation iPod touch (iOS 4.2 or later required).* Just sign in with
your Apple ID on your qualifying device and turn on Find My iPhone to
allow you to locate it. Then use the same Apple ID to turn on Find My
iPhone on your other iOS 4.2 (or later) devices including iPhone 3G,
3GS, or iPod touch (2nd generation or later). Find My iPhone is also
included with a MobileMe subscription.

he needs to read how to get it to work.

do you have an old apple id that isn't an email address?

Ah, yes. I misread that as meaning that you could use it
on the 3GS to locate _another_ device but not to locate itself.

Still, followmee seems to do a little bit more.

You should read more carefully what you are responding to.
Followmee, as I said, is a three-dollar app.

Works just fine on the 3GS. Always has.
