Default iPhone 4s -- No EDGE?

Greetings,

Is there really no possibility to disable 3G on the iPhone 4s to 2G? If
there is, than can somebody tell me how to do it, please?

I am in an area where 3G coverage remains spotty, although 2G is fine.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about your network and your phone. But on a 4 with 4.x software:

"Settings" -> General -> Network > Enable 3G set to OFF.

This will force the phone to 2G mode for both voice and data.

Some networks may have disabled that menu.

Same thing with iOS 5 and iPhone 4.

I wonder if Apple has heard much about that issue and if there are plans
to address it in the next update or so.

What network is the original poster on ? Just curious if this is a 4s
specific feature or if this is a network deciding to remove that feature
from phones using its sim cards.

i'm sure they've heard about it. you're not the first to notice it. if
i had to guess, i'd say it's probably not going to be added but only
apple knows for certain.

Wow - that's surprising to me - and a reason to hold off more
on that 4s I was considering. I switch 3G off sometimes to
save battery, and sometimes when the network is flaky. Slow
but not-flaky is better than fast and flaky.

I wonder if it's due to hardware (ie. does the 4s hardware
have the ability to do EDGE at all?) or if it was a software
decision on Apple's part. As you said, the option is still
there in iOS5 on other devices (like my 4).

it should do edge if there's no 3g, you just can't force it to use edge.

supposedly the new qualcomm baseband chip in the 4s doesn't have the
ability to independently toggle 3g & 2g.
