Default iPad vs iPhone WiFi Question

I have an iPhone 4s and an iPad-1 with 3G//WiFi. I don't have WiFi at
home so i have gone to a friend's to use his WiFi.
I entered the password and the iPad connects just fine. However, the
iPhone won't. I enter the same password, and sometimes the little circle
keeps spinning in settngs, and sometimes it says I'm connected there, but
the indicator at the top of the screen never changes from 3G to WiFi. The
iPhone connects to WiFi just fine at other places such as Starbuck's, etc.

Why would the iPad connect okay but not the iPhone? I put in the same
information. Could it have anything to do with the WiFi being Verizon Fios
and the phone is AT & T? But then, the iPad is AT & T too as far as my 3g
account goes.

Any thoughts on this? Any solutions? Seems very odd.

Thanks muchly!

I haven't had this problem. Does your iPhone connect to Wi-Fi
elsewhere?

Yes, it does. The iPhone connects to WiFi fine at other locations, just
not at this one, while the iPad does connect at this particular location.
Seems kind of odd.
