Default A few days with my new iPhone. And Siri...

Bought an iPhone 4S 16G Friday night at the Apple store, the only place in
Denver that still had some.

To start, I love the phone! Of course, I knew I would, based on having had
a 3GS for a while (stolen). This one's just better in every way. Faster,
does everything except butter my toast (actually, I tried it, but the
butter made the phone to slippery to hold. More on that coming.). The
Retina screen is fantastic. It's great in most every way.

MOST every way. There are some issues. First, how slippery the thing is
even without the butter. Didn't Jobs know we'd be holding it in OUR HANDS?
The only way this phone could be slippery-er is if it dispensed butter
around the edges every few minutes. A definite case of form being put
before function. The glass back has to be one of Apple's worst ideas of all
time and will be remembered as such. I can't wait until my Seidio case gets
here so I won't be carrying it naked.

The interface is beginning to feel a bit clunky after all this time. From
what I've seen of Adroid and WinMo, iOS needs a major revamp soon. The
"multi-tasking" is not great. Overall, it's still quite serviceable, but
they better not stick with this same interface for too much longer or
they'll find themselves left in the dust. I hope this is already in the
works and has the iSteve's fingerprints on it or it might be a disaster.
One can only hope at this point. Maybe they're all attending those classes
at Apple U where they learn to "think like Jobs". BTW, has anyone seen the
syllabus for "Visionary 101"? Just curious.

As to Siri, she and I have quickly devolved to a love-hate relationship.
She's great with things like the weather, adding reminders, playing music
and calculations. But still too many mis-steps to be useful all the time. I
can call most people in my contacts list, but I have to give my middle
son's entire name because when I give Siri his "nickname" in contacts,
"Rob", it tells me it can't find "RTM". How the hell does it get "RTM" from
"Rob"?! Sometimes I can dictate fairly long sentences with big words, other
times, "Run, Tim, run" comes out "What's the number of quarks in a cold
glass of milk". Or something like that. Being an old male-chavinist-pig, I
can honestly say Siri is a female. A lot of fun to have around, but totally
unpredictable. But she doesn't smell as good.

So I'm giving my iPhone 4S an A-. Pretty damned good, but definitely with
some serious flaws. Like the man that invisioned it in the first place.

This was my disappointment with the iPhone 4. Silly thing slides on all
surfaces with more than 0.000002° tilt.

Ended up buying a rubber case for it. Now it stays put.

I have no issues in that respect (4 / iOS 5). It's a very serviceable
portable utility computer. Has a phone too.

He was looking further ahead to when he knew it would become illegal to
use your mobile phone while driving, cycling, jogging, walking, etc.
unless you use it with a hands-free system. ;-)

I have an Invisible Shield cover installed on the back of mine, and it's
perfect:

I disagree. It's better than most Android interfaces I've seen in
person. It'll only improve over time. I'm not worried.

Siri is currently a beta release. That is all.

I suggest you worry about your own flaws and what you yourself have
accomplished in life before you sit in judgement of someone else's flaws
and accomplishments.

Am I the only person who loves the glass design? I have experienced none
of the problems that others report, and I think it looks great.

I love it on the front - but on the back, I feel more comfortable
knowing Invisible Shield is protecting it from scratches and from moving
on slippery surfaces.

No, I am with you. And I carry it naked without a case. Bought my
iPhone 4 in July 2010 and it is pristine. That said most people I know
with an iPhone or any smartphone need a case. Whatever phone they are
going to drop it sooner or later.

The problem is that most Americans are so busy eating fried fast food that
their hands are always covered in grease ... just ask Jeremey Clarkson.

Silicone case at your local flea market will be a problem solver for a few
bucks.

And you didn't feel at least a little bit hypocritical posting this?
