The new model has a different processor (A4 instead of Intel), so the software will be completely incompatible. Is there any significant new feature other than AirPlay? It would make sense for Apple to release an update for Apple TV 1.0 to support that. Interesting question for me is whether the new AirPlay is compatible with AirTunes as implemented by an Airport Express. If so, iOS 4.2 will also allow iOS devices to stream music to an existing Airport Express over WiFi. If not, I'd have to add an Apple TV and reuse the Airport Express to get this feature. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz |
