Flip side of Day Tripper I think?

The new model has a different processor (A4 instead of Intel), so the
software will be completely incompatible.

Is there any significant new feature other than AirPlay? It would make
sense for Apple to release an update for Apple TV 1.0 to support that.

Interesting question for me is whether the new AirPlay is compatible
with AirTunes as implemented by an Airport Express. If so, iOS 4.2 will
also allow iOS devices to stream music to an existing Airport Express
over WiFi. If not, I'd have to add an Apple TV and reuse the Airport
Express to get this feature.

My problem with the iPods is disk capacity, now I have a 160GB
classic, and if the classic is discontinued, which one will replace it
with a similar capacity?

Yep, it's basically a completely new device. Some hacker might get the old
model to run the new software (in a similar way to the iPhone emaultor
running on Mac OS X), but it's unlikely there will ever be an official way.

On the surface and with only the quick look and limited details I've had
time to read so far, it seems like a step backwards, as does the horrible
new iPod Nano. :-\ Of course, Apple TV has always been classed as a
"hobby" project.

not without a shitload of work. it's much easier to spend $99 and get
the new one.

I don't see anything that would need to be changed in the software. My
concern is whether it will still be possible to buy movies and TV shows
with the older versions.

Um, why can't they add the streaming feature to the existing model?
