I'm stuck using hopeless Micorosft Outlook Express when I have to use this
Windoze computer. :-(

Every time I copy some text from a webpage I have to "convert" it to normal
plain text via Notepad before pasting it into a message, otherwise I get
styled messages despite Outlook Express' settings saying it is only using
plain text ... typical Microsoft blunder.

That was an accident. I didn't realize I did that. I must have
inadvertently pastes it twice.

Unfortunately it's not my computer, so I can't go around installing new
software on it ... even if I could, it's also runing low on hard drive
space, doesn't have much RAM is running Windoze 2000 and is as slow as dried
treacle. :-(

http://xnews.newsguy.com/

Free, multieverything, fantastic NNTP client with all the bells and
whistles. Xnews doesn't "install" into Windows. It's too old. Just
create an XNEWS directory and copy the zip file into it. Extract the zip
file and it's ready to use....

Great program....never crashes.
Oh, tip...the two lower left windows with numbers in them are also
buttons. The left one switches between list and message screen. The
right one toggles between split screen and full screen for each.
Mouseover any object to get the full use of it.

Run Xnews from a USB flashdrive. It never installs anything. When you
first boot it, create storage directories for downloads, text and decoded
binaries on the flashdrive so you can take it with you, leaving no trace
on any machine, whatsoever. Only limit is the flashdrive's capacity.
16GB is big enough for movies, music, etc....all in your pocket.

Just run Xnews.exe from the Start - Run box on any Win machine you plug
the flashdrive into and it will open Xnews ready for use. You'll need to
use your username/password off your home newsgroup system, but Xnews
allows any number of identities and NNTP servers, so you can create as
many configurations as you need. Just plug it into any machine on the
net and select whatever server you can log onto and it's ready to go.

It uses nothing of the host system's drive space this way and leaves no
trace you were ever on Usenet. Do be SURE to use "Safely Remove
Hardware" when dismounting it to make sure Windoze has loaded that last
bit of data it always holds in RAM to the proper drive space before
unplugging the flashdrive....

We'll now hear of a wondrous Mac software that does all this, but is 500
times faster than even the flashdrive is capable of.....

Which still doesn't help with memory and speed problems. :-\

The preferrable and sensible solution would be to dump the useless idiots at
Vodafone and get an ISP that actually knows how to and wants to provide
Internet services properly ... unfortunately it's too time consuming and
expensive for me to do. :-(

What the hell are you talking about speed on a TEXT BASED USENET client?

Which planet does this bullshit from the reality distortion field come
from?

Usenet text runs fine on a 4.77 Mhz PCXT!

Forgive "Your Name." The anti-Microsoft chip on his shoulder prevents
him from actually fixing any of his PC problems, else he'd have nothing
to complain about!

Loser Larry is showing hgis ignorance again. :-\

Usenet newsgroups may run fine on a 2hz device ... Windoze doesn't.
