The whole point > is supposed to be that you dont have to back up to the PC anymore. Maybe he doesn't need to, but Apple says we can now sync to iTunes without the cable via WiFi. He seems to be asking how to do it. I was puzzled, too. I couldn't even see the grayed out thing he was talking about, so I clicked the help menu, typed in wireless, and the third item was Sync your device over a WiFi net... You have to sync by wire, then enable WiFi syncing in iTunes (the help page tells how) while it is still plugged in. After that you can unplug and sync wireless. -- Wes Groleau There are two types of people in the world … http://Ideas.Lang-Learn.us/barrett?itemid=1157 |

I posted most of the answer, but it seems to have gone into the Cloud instead. You have to enable it first: Plug in and do a sync. When it is done, on the select the device icon in iTunes and go to the summary tab. scroll down and check the box to enable it. Click "Apply" or iTunes will clear the checkbox when you unplug. After that, if the iTunes computer is on* and connected to the same WiFi net as the pad, a sync will start when you plug in the charger or when you click "sync now" in the settings. More details in the Help files if you use "wireless" to search. -- Wes Groleau There are two types of people in the world … http://Ideas.Lang-Learn.us/barrett?itemid=1157 |

So my device won't launch iTunes by plugging in. I have to launch it manually, then plug in the device. In order to check whether sync would work with iTunes not launched, I told iTunes to quit. Even though I had already clicked "apply" it said iPad settings changed, do you want to apply them? I said yes, and it said "Can't change settings for ipad because it can't be found" then exited. The sync now button is grayed out again. Launched iTunes on the Mac. The iPad reappeared (without cable) and the sync now button is no longer grey. Tapped it, and the sync started. The help file said that during a sync, a sync icon would appear in the iPad's status bar, but it doesn't. However, iTunes shows the same progress data it always did. -- Wes Groleau There are two types of people in the world … http://Ideas.Lang-Learn.us/barrett?itemid=1157 |

I tap that, and the sync starts. (sometimes iTune shows it happening, sometimes not) afterward, iTunes still knows the iPad is there, and vice versa. Quit iTunes, it says "you made changes to iPad settings. Do you want to save them?" Click OK and it says "Could not save settings because the iPad could not be found." ?! But as far as I can tell, everything synced properly. -- Wes Groleau There are two types of people in the world … http://Ideas.Lang-Learn.us/barrett?itemid=1157 |
