Default What is using up "Other" space?

How do I trace down what is using up space that shows up as "Other" on
iTunes?

if it doesn't fit into any of the other categories and itunes isn't
confused, it is 'other.' but itunes frequently gets it wrong anyway.
the other day i had 0 gig apps and 10 gig of other. the next time i
plugged in the phone it corrected itself.

I second that. In my case, a tiny (and legitimate) part of "other" is a
few JB apps, but usually it's just space mistakenly miscategorized by
iTunes that goes back to "apps" after a sync.

Most "other" space is storage in the various applications' documents
folders.

Upgrade to IOS 5.0, open Settings -> General -> Usage (on the iOS device
itself). Then wait a while. I am not sure if the numbers reported include
the size of the application itself, or just the app's data, but the list is
pretty helpful when determining where all your space has gone.

I saw this in a preview of iOS 5, and was very happy to see it. Seems like
not many people have found it...

I'm trying to find this without success.

If you go to the second screen (if you count the Spotlight screen as the
first), you'll find the front applications (Messages, Calendar,
Contacts, etc.) Settings is found on this one also. Open Settings and
you'll see a menu list. From the menu list, go down to General (it's
seventh on mine, but I won't claim that is the same for all). Click on
General and you'll find a number of settings, From these, you should
find Usage easily.

The Usage indicates both the space occupied by the App and its
associated data (documents) because if you click on the App's icon,
you'll find out how much space is occupied by the App's data (documents)
as opposed to the App itself.
