Default Synchronizing notes

I used to have notes synchronized successfully between my Mac's Mail
and my iPad. Maybe it was when iCloud came out that it stopped
working correctly. I have had troubles with duplicate calendar
events and had to go to the Apple Store to stop having duplicates.

I went to add a note on Mail and didn't find any of my old notes. I
added it last night. Since then I have explicitly synchronized my
iPad, which has two notes that used to be on my Mac. It still has
those two notes, but not the new one I added to my Mac.

I went to iTunes and selected my iPad's Info.
I have Sync Address Book Contacts turned off. (I want contacts to be
synchronized but not duplicated)

I have Sync Ical Calendars to sync Reminders only - for events not
older than 30 days. My calendars are being synced with MobileMe
over the air. My calendars will also sync directly with this
computer. This may result in duplicated data showing on your device.

I have Sync Mail Accounts to both my Mail account and my wife's mail
account.

In the other category, I don't have Sync notes checked. It says
"Your notes are being synced over the air. YOu can also choose to
sync notes with this computer. This may result in duplicated data
showing on your device.

Since this latter is what I want, I did not check it. (Maybe it's
saying that this isn't my true - unless I check it. It's not at all
clear to me how to avoid duplicates and whether it is telling me what
is, or what should be).

When I go to https://www.icloud.com/#mail, I don't see any notes at
all.

So I went to my wife's computer which is the one that has a .mac
e-mail address and added a note. That note showed up on
https://www.icloud.com/#mail.

The iPad has both her .mac e-mail and my e-mail accounts. The iCloud
settings have notes (and everything else) turned on.

What else should I look at? What should I try?

I just checked this. So far, it seems to do the job. I assumed it
was telling me my current status.

I still have a big problem. I keep finding the note in my in-basket
of my Mac's mail. I move it to notes, and it shows up again in my
in-basket.
