Default Sync wireless with iTunes - iOS 5

I have a Windows XP computer. I have the latest iTunes and iPhone/iPad
operating systems. I have the most recent iTunes. Can I sync wirelessly with
iTunes on an XP computer? From what I've seen, I would need Vista or Windows
7.

Yes.

I think you are confusing Wireless Sync with iCloud. They are separate
features.

iCloud (Internet backup and sync) requires Vista or Windows 7.

WiFi Sync (over a local WiFi network) requires iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5,
which is compatible with Windows XP.

For comparison: on the Mac, iCloud requires Mac OS X 10.7.2, but I'm
still running Mac OS X 10.6.8. I can do WiFi Sync with iTunes 10.5 for
my iOS 5 devices, but I can't use iCloud.

If you can't work out how to get WiFi Sync working, the key point is
that you have to enable it the device settings in iTunes while your iOS
device is connected via USB.

The setting is under the Options heading on the "Summary" tab of the
device settings (you might need to scroll down to see it).

Once enabled, a WiFi sync will happen automatically each time the iOS
device is plugged into a power source. You can also manually initiate a
WiFi Sync using the Sync button in iTunes, or on the device from Setings
> General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync.

thanks. I think I understand. Plug in my iPad/iPhone to the USB, options,
summary, enable wifi. Question: I am set up to back up to the cloud. Does
that matter?

I connected my i-devices (individually) to iTunes, check the box to wireless
sync, but when I disconnected the device I got an error message that the
device was detected but needed to be reconnected! Could that be because I
had wifi sync AND iCloud sync checked? Do I have to make a choice? When I
unchecked wifi sync, the error went away. (I even tried rebootting my PC but
still got the error.) Did I do something wrong?

I see an iCloud backup, but not an iCloud sync.

If I had to guess, I'd say you didn't look very closely. iCloud
synchronizes a variety of things (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders,
Bookmarks, Notes, Photo Stream* and countless third party applications)

It also has the capability to backup data which doesn't get
synchronized.

* Photo Stream isn't a true sync, it's two way replication.

Yes, but not as an option in iTunes, which is what the discussion is about;
see the subject line.

with IOS 5 on the iPad
1. Connect power to the iPad, not from the PC but from the charger.
2. Turn on the iPad, connect to Wi-Fi, and go to "AppStore".
3. Select "Updates".
4. If any are available select what you want, provide your password, and
update.
5. This is not a full sync but ONLY App update.

I do not know about iPhone since I do not have one.
