Default Query on data wipe afte repeatedr incorrect passcode entry

Hi all,

I realise the Ipad can be configured to delete all data after an incorrect
passcode has been entered too many times.

Can anyone clarify if the passcode is removed as well after the data wipe?

The reason I ask is that I set power on and hard drive passwords on all my
laptops as a matter of course.

I do this not only to protect my data, but also so I have the satisfaction
of knowing that should my laptop be stolen, the thieving scumbag will not be
able to benefit from the use of his/her ill gotten gains

Removing the passcode after the data wipe seems to defeat the purpose, in
that the thief has full use of the device as a result.

Can anyone advise on this point?

your data will be gone, but it can still be plugged into a computer and
restored to stock, at which point the thief has himself a new ipad.

it's the same with laptops too. reformat the hard drive, or replace it
entirely, and the thief has himself a new laptop.

note that you can remotely wipe and/or lock an ipad with find my
ipad/iphone.

I see where you are coming from, but with a power on and hard drive password
set (at least with HP laptops) there is no much a thief can do besides
salvaging the hard disk and memory

Even then the hard disk would need to be formatted in another system before
it could be used. The stolen laptop is completely hosed if the passwords are
unknown - it simply will not boot up.

It sort of grates a bit that the thief will have themselves a new Ipad once
they have forced the data wipe

Are you sure there isn't an internal way to reset to factory settings?

I've seen that on various computers I've had (some Macs, some other)
