Default Mail question...

When I create a new Mail message, and type a few letters in the "To"
field, Mail will bring up a list of email address that start with these
letters.

The problem is, I don't know where Mail is getting these email
addresses from. They are not in my Contacts, nor are they in any
emails that I have received or sent (although they may have been in the
past and were subsequently deleted).

I have tried in vain to remove these email addresses from the list.
Does anyone know how?

Using first-generation iPad with latest iOS.

If they're not in your contacts, they're in messages that you've previously
sent, even if those messages have been deleted from the iPhone.

Unlike mail.app for OS X, there's no way to remove them. Unless there's a
jailbreak solution, that is.
