Default Kindle cloud reader

I just got an e-mail from Amazon telling me about the Kindle cloud
reader that runs on Safari on the iPad.

I don't have any idea what advantage there would be for using that
instead of the Kindle app on my iPad. Does anybody else?

It only runs on select browsers.

I looked at it and I don't like it at all. The only way I would use it
was if I had no other way to read an ebook from Amazon.

Well, let's see...

1. It's slower.
2. You need a network connection of some sort.
3. You can only read the books that you've paid for.
4. They get to keep close track of your reading habbits.

Can anybody else think of any more advantages?

Maybe Apple can't stop them from selling you new books in the cloud
reader?

Kidding aside, this is designed for when or where there's no possibility
of using a Kindle app. (A friend's computer, the library, an internet
cafe, etc.) Or for a platform with an HTML5 browser but no Kindle app
(Google Chrome OS, perhaps?)

I look at it like Google Docs or Office Live; normally I'd rather stick a
fork in my eye than use an online document editor, but if that's all
that's available...

I infer that it may be just instructions on how to access it from
Safari? If it's a Safari add-on, then I'm not going to be changing
someone else's Safari on his iPad.

But if it's my iPad, then I will use the Kindle app.

That's one of the reasons. The other is in case you want to
read your books on a computer, perhaps one which isn't yours,
on which you will not be installing new software.

Apple recently made Amazon take the link (and the ability) to directly
access the Amazon book store out of the Kindle app. To keep the link
Amazon would have been required to fork over 30% of any book sales to
Apple. This new cloud reader is Amazon's way of sticking it to Apple.
You can now read your Kindle books in the Safari browser and also have
access to the Amazon book store. Apple gets nada...

Yep, and it's just as easy to turn on your Droid or plastic Kindle and
buy directly from there...

Actually Apple couldn't stop them before. It's just that you no longer
had a nice button/link from inside the Kindle app to open Safari at
the Amazon book store. You actually had to open Safari yourself and
punch in the Amazon URL. After that it was the same as before.
