That is a truly wonderful tool! Were you the one who told me about it? I
love it!

If the app doesn't have any important content(such as some that need the
internet to do anything anyway) you could delete and reinstall if you got
it from the app store, couldn't you?

Yes. But the iTunes library on my computer holds a virgin copy of my
app, without settings and documents.

Yes, I mentioned several alternatives I'd tried and that was the one
which seemed the best option.

I downloaded it and it's running now. Or at least it's open. I
clicked on Help, but help isn't available. I will try to figure it
out tomorrow.

the main group are apps that sync to the cloud, since their data isn't
only on the device.

Apps that sync documents with iTunes, since a backup is synced to your
computer,as well as apps that store (or use) data on external servers.
Dropbox, TripIt, or Cardmobili (an app that stores your retail loyalty
cards) for example.

I just poked around until I found where tonmake a copy of the whole iPad.
When it was done I could open, for instance, Pages, and see everything on
it.
