Default IOS 5 Crippled my iPad. Options?

After a couple calls to Apple Support and a trip to the local Apple
Store, the diagnosis is a broken iPad Original.

The IOS 5 update goes fine until the restore firmware step. It gets
about 90% through that, then fails. My totally speculative theory is
that there's a flaw in the firmware area of the iPad's memory, but it
didn't show up until the 100 MB-fatter IOS 5 firmware load was attempted.

I've downloaded the IOS 4.3.5 ipsw file, but iTunes won't let me install
it. What are my options? I haven't been interested in jailbreaking the
iPad, until now. Would that allow me to back down to IOS 4.3.5? How do I
do that?

Are there any other options besides throwing the iPad onto the Pile o'
Electronic Hazardous Waste?

there's no going back unless you saved an shsh blob when 4.3.5 was the
latest, and since you are asking the question, you more than likely
didn't.

try putting it into dfu mode (google for how) and doing a full restore
using option-restore on a mac, shift-restore on windows.

It kind of puts me off upgrading.
I hope there is a bug free iOS 5.1 soon.

There's no such thing as bug-free software.

That said, the problem Wayne is describing isn't a bug in iOS 5.

Lots of people have upgraded their iPad 1s without issue - myself
included.

If Apple told me "this iPad is broken", I'd ask for more details about
how, exactly, it's broken.
