Default Editing old provider accounts

I was trying to get my Wi-Fi iPad 1 to send e-mail from a Wi-Fi spot.
At home, it works by sending out via my Comcast account. I found
where I can edit the Outgoing Mail Server, and see a choice of my
primary server (which my brother recently changed to Godaddy), and a
bunch of others, including obsolete outgoing servers (my brother's
older e-mail server), and what I think is the account I want to use
duplicated.

I try turning off the primary server and trying both duplicates but
sending the emails seemed to be trying Comcast and failing.

Now my iPad is at home along with my (Lion) Mac. How do I go about
experimenting with getting this to work, and cleaning up obsolete
servers on my computers and my iPad?

I have the password, and I can get inbound e-mail.
The smtp server is smtpout.secureserver.net
The pop server is pop.secureserver.net

I'm guessing that doesn't work away from home because Comcast won't
allow you to use their email servers away from home.

I hope you've got the iPad Mail app configured to use SSL for each of
your email accounts. Otherwise you may be allowing others to get your
password any time you send or receive email away from home. ; )

I saw that, but wondered if it got it from my Mac somewhere and I
needed to delete it there first. I did notice that my "duplicate"
accounts have different server ports. I just deleted the old one. I
see two gmail accounts, I'll have to check with my wife to see if she
uses gmail, I never have.

I see that my e-mail has Use SSL turned on. My wife's uses a
@me.com account, which appears to just show up as iCloud. I'm not
sure how to check it.

That's my guess as well. I hope it allows me to use other servers
from home so that I can test my iPad settings. Oh, it should do
that, because I'm using another server right now for this message.

Well yeah other servers should be fine. The reason Comcasts does't work
is probably that they, like most cable companies, prevent login to their
email servers from connections that aren't on their own network.

It's possible those accounts were created by importing the settings from
iTunes. You can check that by opening iTunes on the computer to which
you normally sync the iPad, selecting the iPad in the DEVICES list on
the left side of the iTunes window, and checking to see if Sync Mail
Accounts is checked in the Info tab.

I'm pretty sure iCloud is encrypted by default; so no worries there.

Some cable companies have added support for mobile devices and have
separate settings you can use on iOS devices. They will normally use
port 587 for the SMTP and require a password for authentication rather
than using authentication on POP which may be used when you are at home.

Yep. These two accounts were checked. I don't see anything on the
iPad that allows me to select a Primary Server, so I have Comcast
turned off, and my secondary server on.

So I expect somewhere on my Mac is a place that has my obsolete
accounts that I can delete.

Interesting, I shall have to check into this.

Also, some cable providers have a webmail interface; not as convenient
as using your own client, but it'll do in a pinch.
