It seems like my (smart) cover only permits to use iPad in landscape
mode: in your opinion, is this the most popular way you use iPad?

I have to admin I like the portrait, but perhaps only because I'm a
newbie..

What do you think about it?

I use landscape on my iPad almost all the time.
There are some apps that only work in portrait mode but not many insist on
working in portrait.
What ignores me with an app wants me to turn on iPad upside down as it is
written to display itself hat way.

Another reason for using landscape is that I keep my iPad in a case and it
tilts the correctly way in landscape mode.
Email and browsing the Internet seems to display better in the landscape
mode.

only if you use it to prop up the ipad. you can always hold it any way
you want.

It depends upon what I'm doing. I read books in portrait. I watch
movies in landscape. I play games in whatever format the writers of
the game designed.

Searching for apps, I don't care. Have you noticed that when you
look at your apps in iTunes, it knows how your iPad is oriented?

I don't use it much. I DEFINITELY prefer the vertical orientation for
reading extensive text such as books (fewer page turns) and for anything
where I'm using the on-screen keyboard to write something like replies such
as this, because the keyboard takees up less space this way. Of course, I
have no "smart" cover getting inmy way. . .
