Default Audiobooks question

I don't generally listen to Audiobooks, so I didn't notice this until
someone else showed me.

When I open iTunes, I can go to books, and see 3 audiobooks. On my
iPod app on my iPad, I see those same 3 audiobooks. When I look at
them in Finder on my Mac, I see that they are .m4a or .m4b files.

But when I go to music, I see some more audiobooks which are stored as
..mp3 books. iTunes has them with genre = audiobooks. Do I need
to find some way to convert them to .m4a to have them treated as
audiobooks? If so, what do you recommend?

Unfortunately, iTunes doesn't care what the genre is, it won't put MP3
audiobooks into the audiobook library.

Look at <http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/itunsabk.htm> and
<http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/itunes/importing-mp3-cds/>.

The genre isn't what determines where they show up in iTunes. What
determines that is the Media Kind setting in the Options tab of the Info
window.

So:

1. Select the track(s) you want to change.
2. Choose File > Get Info.
3. Click the Options tab at the top of the Info window.
4. Set the Media Kind to Audiobook.
5. Click OK.

Thanks.

Interesting that when I look at Books after doing this with a couple
of books consisting of multiple .mp3 files as music - they show up as
single Audiobooks under books (With my iPad, I can see the
multi-parts). I don't seem to be able to right click on books nor
audiobooks from within iTunes.

Can't help you there. While I do have a couple audiobooks in iTunes and
on my iPhone/iPad, my interaction with them is minimal.
