Default any advice before upgrading the iPad to iOS5?

I see that people have had problems when upgrading the iPad operating
system which in is a loss of data in some cases.

I have not upgraded to iOS5 yet and was hoping that someone could advise me
on how to prepare for the upgrade to reduce loss of information on the
iPad before updating the operating system.

consider waiting for itunes 10.5.1 and/or ios 5.0.1. the number of
problems with what they just released are much higher than normal for a
major upgrade.

If you use Stanza to read ebooks, find another reader you like and be
prepared to re-populate the new apps library after the upgrade.

I don't know how much the Stanza app is involved in maintaining its end
of the library, so you might want to clean out the Stanza library before
the upgrade.

1. Back up the iPad.
2. Sync your iPad with iPhoto.
3. Sync your iPad with iTunes.

Probably the best thing you can do is what you did - wait until
Apple's servers aren't so busy.

I had other problems that frustrated me a lot - but I never got a
handle on how they went away. I just kept re-trying. Maybe
sequencing mattered (iCloud first or second).

One thing: I lost my settings for such things as compressing my
iTunes, so everything didn't fit when it reloaded everything. Look
for such settings.

I'm used to losing the settings for which iPhotos synchronize, but
this is the first time I lost the "Convert higher bit rate songs to
128 kbps AAC" which is on the Summary page Options, next to the "Sync
with this iPad over Wi-Fi". Figure out which options you need
first, and incrementally add the other ones after you get upgraded.

Someplace I saw as setting that said something to the effect of
"synchronize what photos will fit on the iPad" - but I'm not finding
that setting right now. If you see it, I'd hold off setting it for
a few days - I'm ready to experiment now though, and I'm not finding
it.

Also, in the Info page, scroll down to the "Advanced". It has
options to "Replace information on this iPad". Everything seemed to
be replaced anyway, so I don't know if this did anything.

When you see duplicates, check this page as well in "other" - I found
duplicates in my calendar which included the same items on our
computers and iCloud. I don't understand what Apple is doing there.

I didn't notice any change in Stanza. I opened it up and was on the
same page of a book that I was reading before the upgrade. What
should I be looking at?

You have Stanza running on iOS5?

It blows up quite nicely on my iPod, and the Web's full of reports that
it's known not to work and will likely never be fixed.

I'm holding moving my iPad to iOS5 'til I find another book reader that
I'm happy with.

So far, so good. But, you're right, it hasn't been maintained. I
still can't see Stanza documents that I dragged from Calibre to the
Stanza apps in iTunes. Nothing changed with IOS5 for me though.

I much prefer the way things work on Macs and PCs, where I click on
the book to pull up my reader of choice.

And after all that, it might work just fine. I does on my iOS devices that I
upgraded earlier this week. But better safe than sorry.

So do I.

IIRC, Amazon bought them out, and that was the end of development.
