Default "This accessory is not supported by ipad" with HDMI adapter

A brand new Ipad (just swapped by Apple because the HDMI output
stopped working after 3 minutes) and a brand new HDMI adaptor from the
Apple shop.

Outrageous.

It also causes the Ipad to be very unreliable. The wifi connection
slows down to about 1% of its normal speed, making the device useless
for Iplayer etc.

Many people report this problem.

I have an iPad2 and a HDMI adaptor and have had no problems in using it.

And you left the Apple store with it anyway?

Any plans to take it back?

That screen shot could have been taken with any number of accessories; it
tells us nothing. And you didn't even tell us which HDMI adaptor it is.

It was bubble wrapped and I didn't test it there. Should have done...

>Any plans to take it back?

Yes - it cost GBP 35 which is quite a lot. But it takes us half a day
of messing about to get back to the Apple shop (parking in a big city,
etc).

I do actually have a non-Apple HDMI adaptor also which does not cause
that message to appear, but it causes the same weird behaviour of the
Ipad itself, which seems to affect the wifi speed dramatically, making
the BBC Iplayer app useless. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Also the Apple HDMI adaptor is the only one I know of with a length of
flexible cable. The others plug directly into the Ipad, and since the
connector is rather flimsy, it is only a matter of time before it gets
broken under the weight of the HDMI cable going to the TV.

I guess the WIFI transfer-to-TV option would do away with this
problem, and would work even on an Ipad with a dud HDMI output (like
my 1st Ipad2 was) but I don't see this working with anything but an
Apple TV.

That doesn't mean you didn't buy another brand from the store.

That adaptor is very short; did you run an extension cable with it? If so,
was it between the iPad and the adaptor, or was it between the adaptor and
the TV?

Thus far, you are the only person to have reported this problem on any
internet venue.

Is it possible this adapter for some reason has an abnormal
amount of EMI that makes it hard for the WiFi to decode the
signals it needs?
