I may have jumped the gun, but I thought this was a pretty good deal
so I bought it.

The holy grail of IIc accessories. One of those, a Zip Chip, and a
SmartPort storage device of some kind and you've got pretty good
coverage of the souped up 8-bit Apple II feature set.

Enjoy :-)

Yep, looks good. I thought the shipping looked a little wonky, until
I realized it CAME WITH the IIc as well. Yep, pretty good deal all
the way around.

according to wikipedia, this ultra card works in a IIc+ as well

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applied..._Plus_Specific

which I already have it souped up to 8 Mhz. Zip chip not required.
Looking forward to trying CPM mode

On a more intensive search, some sites say that the ZRAM Ultra III
won't fit in a IIc+. Now that I recall, my Ultra II would not fit
either. I think I remember it being due to the internal PS.

Good luck achieving reliable operation with a ZipChip stacked on a ZRAM III in
a IIc. I purchased a Zip 8000 and ZRAM 3 on eBay about a year ago, but the
combination really does not physically fit in the machine. I could get it to
work some of the time with the unit disassembled, but never with everything
closed up. IIRC, the keyboard partially dislodges the Zip from the socket.
Since Zips have socket contact issues even under the best of circumstances, it
turned out to be a non-starter.

I'm further unaware of the AE ZRam-anything fitting in a IIc+, but admit I
have not researched it any depth.

That section of the Wikipedia entry is probably too generic -- it probably meant that each of those cards were only for certain models of the IIc/IIc+(i.e., not usable in the II/II+/IIe/IIgs models). Even the cited memory expansion cards cannot be used in the earlier IIc models which do not have the memory expansion connector.

I had a ZRAM Ultra II and a Zip Chip in a IIc, but I think I was also unsuccessful fitting it in a IIc+ (was the MMU soldered on the IIc+?).

I have a Zip 8 and a Mega IIc ram card in my IIc. It fits (but just
barely) and the Mega card is a real slim card too. The keyboard has a
slight bulge in it from the duo, however, it boots fine (and fast) and
compliments my CT100c hard drive so my IIc runs pretty slick for a 1986
vintage (03). After the hard drive, I have twin UniDisk 3.5 drives and an
external Disk IIc. My video out is handled by a Video 7 digital RGB box
to an NEC 2D monitor. I haven't tried the above with my IIc+ but I have
an Apple-branded IIc card populated to 1mb in my IIc+ so I get 4mHz speed
with 1mb ram so it's not bad.

Do you have the original //c with the reinforced KB? Definite issues there, but I haven't seen or heard what you're describing on any of the latter machines with the non-reinforced KB.

I also have a version 00 IIc as well, with a ZRAM II - 512k setup and
noticed the really thick keyboard reinforcement too. My 03 version has a
much thinner keyboard and, using the really thin Mega ramcard and the Zip
8, it JUST fits, with a slight bit of bulging of the keyboard. It
definitely wouldn't fit in the 00 version with the much thicker keyboard.

I was wondering; would a GS keyboard fit (it you were to remove it from
the stand-alone casing) and put it into the IIc, using the internal plugs?
My IIc+ keyboard and my GS keyboard look virtually identical.
