Default Zip GS info

Can anyone explain the Zip GS story to me? There is a copy of a manual
on the Net from Zip Technology that identifies THREE products they
were apparently planning to sell for the GS: The Zip GS (model 1500),
the Zip GS Plus (model 1525), and the Zip GSX (model 1600). This
little manual is unclear, but it appears that they planned on having a
simple chip-replacment (like the Zip Chip) for the 65816, and a board,
and something else. Much of the chatter on the net about the Zip GS
seems to use "Zip GS" and "Zip GSX" interchangeably.

They advertized three different models when they first came out but
the only one to ship was the Zip GSX. I never heard what happened. A
lot of dealers were expecting other models to come in but didn't
receive them.
There were some problems with the first version of the Zip GSX that
shipped. I could be wrong but I think it was a DMA issue. You could
send them back to the factory for repair/modification. Almost all the
ones produced were version 1.0.2 but some 1.0.1 shipped.

As for the name, it may say Zip GSX on the card but everyone including
Zip advertized it as the Zip GS.

I recall when someone posted that Alltech was down to their last
ZipGS. It seemed to take a while to sell. I was tempted to buy it but
I already had two.

Don't forget about their only other product, the 'Zip Drive', the ASIC precursor to the Parsons and Focus drive controllers. I think James Littlejohn has a few of them, as does Tony Diaz.
