I think what I'm referring to were the "White Disks" referenced on this page: http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/landove.../Applications/ Is it safe to assume that anything on those pages is contained in the archive of mirrors.apple2.org.za found here? ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple...ther_archives/ Namely: ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple...008-07-23).zip And does anyone know whether a new dump of the .org.za site is going to be done any time soon? Because the more recent dump is listed as only "partial": ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple...011-07-22).zip |

I suppose what I'm asking is: If I back up Asimov, then have I also successfully backed up all of the other archives out there? Or is there a substantial collection of other stuff, elsewhere on the internet, that Asimov doesn't mirror or parrallel in some way? I would like to avoid duplication of effort but I also don't want to miss an important trove somewhere! :-) |

It seems ridiculous to have stuff so dispersed. Isn't it possible to narrow down the number of sites that it is necessary to go to? If you wanted your own personal Apple II archive, it should be possible to just tell an FTP client to suck down everything at Asimov and let that be the end of it. What is out there, but not at Asimov? |

Here are the main sections of Vault: - Downloads: Nearly everything marked with an orange "Exclusive" star. Some of these files have been copied to Asimov, but most haven't, and these are disks from my personal collection. People have also sent in files and PDFs to be added to the Vault collection. I don't know if they have been added to Vault; I haven't done it. Probably less than 1,000 files are exclusive to Vault. (I don't have the exact figure now, but I can check if you're curious) - Usenet: Basically Vault is the only source of all binaries, plus there's everything that Google Groups has, plus a bit more (articles that were nuked, for example) - KB: Most of the text files and PDFs came from other sites, so you're probably safe there. - Photos: Mostly photos of my own collection. As far as I know, they haven't been copied to any other site - Mirrors: I have tens of gigabytes of mirrors of many other sites, but it looks live Asimov has most of them too. So if you send a SASE, I will send you back the 3-DVD Vault collection, which contains all of the above except for the Usenet articles and Mirrors. And then you will ... finally... have it all. ;-) -- ]DF$ Mac GUI Vault - A source for retro Apple II and Macintosh computing. http://macgui.com/vault/ |

If you send your SASE in the mail tomorrow, you could have your copy by Saturday, or Monday at the latest. I've got a fast turn-around time. I get them in the mail the next day after receiving the SASE. -- ]DF$ Mac GUI Vault - A source for retro Apple II and Macintosh computing. http://macgui.com/vault/ |
