Default Question: AE Colorlink

Does anyone know what monitors the AE Colorlink is intended to work with? It
has two outputs, one came with an adapter for an IBM CGA/EGA style DB9
connector and the second header on the card is intended for an "Apple" monitor
- the manual is no more explicit than that! I do not have the adapter for the
15-pin, but sat down and built what I believe is the correct setup to bring
out to a DB15F. I cannot get display on either output, unfortunately.

Have tried a CGA adapter normally used with a Tandy CoCo (9-pin plug) and the
Highway converter used with a IIgs (15-pin, with external 12V supply to switch
the adapter into external video mode).

Looking at the circuitry, I'm thinking the 9-pin output is TTL level and the
15-pin is analog video (uses a couple of driver transistors). It's possible
that I did not figure the pinout properly, I suppose.

If anyone with a ColorLink has time to take an ohmmeter to the 15-pin cable,
I'd like to verify the wiring.

Thanks, Wayne. Just for clarification:

- I assume that's a view of the 16-pin header on the ColorLink, and the
numbers indicate where they connect to the DB15?

- If so, is this viewed from the top or bottom of the board?

Nevermind... Took an educated guess and determined it's a view from the
bottom of board (i.e. looking at the 16-pin female on the cable.

I only needed to swap pins 2 and 5 to get it right.

For future reference:

- The Digital Prism manual has the functions of SW3 and 4 interchanged. Sync
polarity is actually on 4 - at least on my board.

- The "Apple" (DB15) output is analog RGB with composite sync (+/- selected by
SW4 on the card).

- The "IBM" (DB9) output is digital (TTL-level) with separate H+V sync. It's
intended, I think, for a CGA or EGA monitor but would not work with my EGA
converter (normally connected to a C= 128).

- If you want to use a SCART-input monitor or converter with the DB15, you'll
need to provide +12v on pin 8 to switch it into RGB mode. I used a little
"hook" clip to grab it right next to the power supply connector on the
motherboard.

Default Question: AE Colorlink

I should have been clearer but it was late in the day.
I took that from the cable itself looking at the end of the cable with
9 in the upper left corner

Default Question: AE Colorlink

You have saved me a number of hours. I have a Color Link card, and have used it with a standard IIgs RGB monitor, and a CGA monitor. I also briefly tried (unsuccessfully, of course) to hook it up to the SCART input of my Samsung monitor using Roger's SCART cable.

From the pinout documents for the IIgs' DB-15 video connector, the Color Link's DB-15 video connector, and from Roger's web site, I understood I was missing a +12v connection somewhere (provided by a IIgs, but not by the Color Link). Just didn't have the time to wire things up and experiment (this was a couple of weeks ago).

Being a noob at reading schematics, where exactly in the motherboard did you hook the clip to get +12v?

Hi, Peter.

Find electrolytic cap C12 in the left-rear corner of the motherboard. The
left side of that component is at +12V. I just used a little "hook" type test
clip (should be available at Radio Shack).

Let me know how it works out for you.

+12v is also available at the RF modulator header, if your machine has one
(near slot 7).
