Hello everyone,
it is once again my pleasure to announce that a new version of OpenEmulator was released. http://www.openemulator.org/ The highlight in OpenEmulator 1.0.2 is 1977 Apple II support. A short feature list: * Emulates the 1977 Apple II * Joystick/mouse support with programmable axis and button mapping, sensitivity, reversal, and joystick auto detection * Supports PAL/NTSC video generation and crystal frequency (14.31818 MHz vs 14.25 MHz) * Cycle-accurate video emulation * Support for several character sets * Emulates the floating bus * Support of the Apple II cassette interface * Support for Apple II revision 0 and 1 or later. * Added the AppleColor Composite Monitor Some tips: * Besides the Controls menu and toolbar, you can also press CTRL +BACKSPACE for reset and CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE for restart * To start BASIC, type E000G <ENTER> * You can get cassette recordings of software here: - http://www.brutaldeluxe.fr/projects/cassettes - https://public.me.com/lord_philip (to load a cassette, follow the instructions with the recording, or try LOAD <ENTER> from the BASIC > prompt) * You can load Applesoft from cassette :-). I may give it a try over the next week or two. I do have a couple of questions though. - On the site the screenshots are all of the program running in an OS X window. Would this program also run in Linux (specifically Debian based distros such as Mint) on a PC? I do have access to a Mac Mini and a G3 mini-tower so I will be able to run it there. - How well does it run in a VNC session? - Although the site says the program emulates an Apple I and Apple ][ there are a couple of screenshots where it looks like it is emulating a GS. Is this accurate and if so is it easy to do? An interesting fork would be to see if the program could make complete use of all the host systems speed and resources. Later Mike |

Regarding the screenshots of the IIGS, they are in the "Video Rendering" section. This is just a test of the video shader, nothing more. I do hope to emulate soon the IIGS. Regarding using all the host system speed, I'm against that. My purpose is to accurately emulate old systems, and that includes their speed. But I do have plans regarding speed: accurately emulating the accelerator boards you could had available at that time. With the best wishes, Marc.- |

Those I occasionally talk with have been promoted to sys-admin positions. Just a thought... If your code is fairly generic you may want to look at freepascal.org. There is also a programmers front end called Lazarus. The reason for the suggestion is just about all the work is done to make the compiler cross-platform already. Still it would be cool to walk into a fast food joint with a laptop running a 3GHz GS. Imagine the reaction. Imagine the windroids... "But But But... THAT'S not Windows! You CAN'T do that!
