With the GS, if it's not in slot 7, you do need to set the slot to be "Your Card" in the control panel. If you want to have virtual floppy drives in a different slot than the one the physical card is plugged into, then _that_ slot needs to be set to "Your Card" as well. > Has anyone used the usb on this card with a usb extender cable? As Sean says, it's not only possible, but encouraged. It saves mechanical wear on the connector on the card. You can also plug in multi-card adapters and use all sorts of memory devices; just note that you can't use a USB hub. To see a multi-card adapter in use, I used one in this video at 1:40: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q113bbwR5A |

I want to also thank Rich for helping me with the installation. It took me some time to understand the concept. Mine is in a ROM1 GS in slot 7, set up for floppy disk drive emulation. A 4gb CF card will hold all the Prodos and GS/OS images, mostly 800k images, and a 8gb USB stick (on an extender cable) will hold all the DOS, 140k images. I still have an original CF card in slot 1 set up for 'block' devices (hard drives). All the software I have will easily fit onto the memory cards. No more fumbling through boxes of floppies, hoping they still work. So, just turn the machine on, press the cda keys, select which floppy image to boot, and voila, there it is. Do nothing and it boots into GS/OS 6.0.1. Again, thanks, Ken C |
