Default Large disk images?

Hi,

How do I use large 2mg files? Typically, they are 800K (for 3.5
disks), but I am also seeing larger ones, like LemminGS or
Wolfentstein 3D, that reach a few MB in size.

Thanks!

Check the documentation that comes with your emulator. Sweet16, for example,
can mount large 2mg files.

If you are using AppleWin:

1) Go to the CONFIGURATION menu.
2) Go to the DISK tab.
3) Check off "ENABLE HARD DISK CONTROLLER IN SLOT 7"
4) Click "SELECT HDD1" or "SELECT HDD2" and put the .2mg file of your
choice in the Slot 7 drive of your choice.

If you are using KEGS32:

1) Press F4.
2) Select DISK CONFIGURATION.
3) Place the .2mg file of your choice in the Slot 5 drive of your
choice.

Well, I am not using emulation. I am writing disks with ADTPro over a
serial connection...

ADTPro works just fine with 800K images to 800K floppies.

ADTPro also works just fine with 800K images to an 800K partition on a
1 MB RamFactor card (I have used it for that purpose many times).

ADTPro also works just fine with 5 MB images to a 5 MB ProFILE, and 10
MB images to a 10 MB ProFILE. (I have used it for both.)

Where you will run into trouble is if you try to send an image to a
disk that is the wrong size. Don't try to send a 140K image to an
800K floppy, even if the 140K image is ProDOS-format.

ADTPro doesn't send files. It sends whole disks. So you need to make
sure that the disk (or partition) that is on the receiving end is the
exact same size as the image that you are sending to it.

Assuming you have a decent size RAM card, I would just copy the large .
2mg file (lets say 4MB) to your RAM and then copy it to your hard
drive. If you don't have a hard drive, you can still play the game or
program, it just won't stay loaded after reboot.

To ease your life, I've updated the LemminGS page with the already-
present but not visible three 800 KB disk images @

The new CFFA3000 controller is also a great way to use 2mg files
(also .dmg .po .do .dsk .raw) on any Apple II machine (][, ][+, //e, //
e enhanced, //GS (Rom1 & 3)). Also great way to move bwtween real
hardware and emultors. Fantastic hardware and firmware.
