Default Keef the Thief Graphics Problems

Has anyone had problems running Keef the Thief? I'm having some
trouble with the graphics, they don't seem to load right (the main
graphic window is basically missing). This doesn't happen all the
time, only at certain places and it happens in different places
depending on which version I'm using. At first I tried running the
cracked version from the gaming fairway from my hard drive and the
problem happened on the first screen (outside Same Mecon). When I
tried to run it from my original floppies the game seemed to work, but
I ran into the problem again when I got to that bridge where you have
to shoot the guy with the crossbow to pass. Similarly the tree top
village area was also missing its graphics.

Any ideas? I'd say it was a bad copy or something, but both versions
seem to be doing the same thing if at different times. My IIgs is
running GS/OS 6 and has a Transwarp, but I set the speed on that to
normal.

I looked at this again last night and it's really odd. The game still
works and if you move the cursor in the window that's not showing up
and click a command (like go north) it will work properly (this is
hard to do though since you can't see what you're doing). Likewise
the drop down menus will still work, but an part of them that goes
through that missing window does not appear. It's odd, it's like the
graphics aren't loading so nothing appears there, but the game still
runs. Very odd.

I’ve just tested this on Sweet 16 with System 6.0.1 from my ‘Board and
Role Playing Games’ hard drive image and I’m not having any problems. I
played the game to its conclusion back in the day and never had any
problems. I can’t remember if I had a Transwarp at that particular time
–Â*I don’t think I did, but I’m sure I never had problems with the
ZipGSX.

The game itself uses the standard Apple GUI –Â*no tricky graphics tricks
employed. About the only unusual graphics thing it does do is it
changes the IIGS border colours. For example, you can tell if guards
are a approaching in the streets of Same Mercon when you break into
houses to steal stuff. I think border colours change when successfully
mastering new spells, or failing to as well.

Have you got another IIGS to test on? :-) Are you copying all the
relevant files to the hard drive? Double check with the IIGS Reference
card included with the manual documentation here:

Please shift-boot and try the game.
I wonder whether one of your extension is not the cause of your
problems.

Yep and that part works just fine. In fact most of the game works
just fine if I play it from the disks, but eventually I run into the
graphics problem. I just run into it right away if I play it from my
HD. I'm pretty sure I got all the files copied over, unless they're
hidden or something like that.

I can try that, but wouldn't that problem be solved by playing it from
the disk?

Ok total weirdness. Everything is working now, even with the
Transwarp set to 7Mhz. I wonder what was going on before? Maybe my
IIgs just wasn't feeling well that day?

One thing I didn't try is the combat with the Transwarp running.
Anyone know if it will go to fast? That's one of my biggest fears in
using the Transwarp is that it will make some games really tough to
play due to the speed bump. I haven't run into any yet, but I'm sure
they're out there.
