Default FreeDOS on PCTransporter

Has anyone tried FreeDOS or DR-DOS on the PCTransporter? If so, care to share your experiences?

I'm also curious if anyone tried setting up a serial IP connection (maybe with a SerialPro), and tried to get mTCP working with it?

After extensive Googling, I've found a few people who *have* used FreeDOS on the PCTransporter (at least as far as loading it). I can't find any problem reports, so thats a good thing. I might be the first person to try mTCP on it though.

My *original* goal was to figure out how to write a PortWare driver for thePCTransporter so that it could interface with an Uthernet card. In turn, Iwould also also have to come up with a packet driver on the PC-side. That might be a bit ambitious for my programming skill level.

The fallback plan is then to try interfacing to a Lantronix UDS1100 or similar device via the SerialPro PortWare driver and see what happens.

It looks like 2.0.2 is the latest PCT software. Does anyone have anything newer?

Sean,

I have a PC Transporter System Disk marked Revision 2.0.4 (SN 159340).
It will take me a while to get a copy made that I can send you, probably
after the holidays.
I have no idea if there is a later version.

Charlie

Sean,

As mentioned in the previous post, I have PC Transport System Disk Rev
2.0.4.
Here is some more information about this revision from the disk's README
file:

--------------------------------------------------
PC TRANSPORTER README FILE REV 2.04 ====================================

* CHANGES TO THE PC TRANSPORTER SYSTEM DISK FROM REV 2.02 TO REV 2.04 *

This upgrade includes important changes in four areas; the communications
drivers, hard disk support, RESET handling, and termination of MSDOS.

1. The communications drivers have been drastically revised.

They now work with a wider variety of communications software packages.
The new drivers are in the AEPC.DRIVERS directory:
GSCOM1 and GSCOM2 for the Apple IIgs internal ports
SSCCOM1 and SSCCOM2 for Super Serial Card or compatibles
ACCCOM1 and ACCCOM2 for the old Apple Communication Card

The GSCOMx drivers no longer require that the corresponding slot be set to
"MODEM.PORT".

2. AEPCBIOS has been revised.
Trying to access beyond the last cylinder of a hard disk volume no longer
will hang the system. The BIOS now returns an error code for that
situation.

3. AEPC.SYSTEM has been revised.
Apple RESET now correctly returns to ProDOS or GS/OS .

4. A new IBM program is now included in /AEPC/MSDOSVOL named PCTQUIT.
This program will terminate MSDOS and return to ProDOS or GS/OS.
copy this program to your own disk, rename it to whatever you
like(perhaps BYE.COM, or QUIT.COM).

Thats significant - do you have the complete set of disks (2x 5.25 and/or 1x 3.5)? Thanks again for the help.

Okay, I had a burst of energy and dug out my machine I use for making
disk images. You can download a zipped PO image at:

or the same as a DC image at:
