Default ebay australia IIgs collection -> $69,000!

I'm really surprised at the asking bid on this auction.
What would you think this collection would be worth untested and
without pictures, in one lot?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=330648396948

Cheers,
Andrew

I've just sent a message to the seller. The description lacks pictures
and is not precise enough...

Quote from the auction listing: "Only an Apple Collector will know
what this collection is worth."

Yeah, and it ain't worth AU$69,000. It's not worth ~US$67,000 either.
That's more than most people's yearly salary.

I've seen that guy sell stuff before and I don't doubt he has a good
collection, but his asking price is asking waaaaaay too much.

For that price, there would have to be 150+ complete Woz Edition
machines, with ROM03 boards, each with an accelerator, SCSI card and
drive, stereo card and speakers, floppy drives, and plenty of games
CIB included. If he has all that, tested, I'd say it's an okay deal...

But isn't there somewhat of a premium because it's in Australia? I
thought it was one of those countries where the Apple II didn't make that
many inroads, be it due to the cost or just local preference, so prices
would be somewhat higher. It's easier for someone in Australia to
actually get the thing than having it shipped over from the US.

Of course, not that high a premium.

Michael

You wouldn't want to pay by PayPal either as just underneath the
shipping, it says PayPal will only cover up to $20,000.

So much for filing a complaint if you are not satisfied. Leave poor
feedback -- Not as described -_-

He must of figured 46 items with 100% feedback gives him good
credibility as well. I think he needs to sell a few more small items
(like, maybe 1000) and still have 100% feedback before any one would
trust him with that price.

Actually given that original Apple ][ disks sell for around $5-10+ (or
many times that) on eBay, the "Over 4 000 plus disks" alone could be
worth $20,000-$40,000 or more - providing they are originals and not
bootlegs.

The descriptions are very vague. When you are spending $1,000's,
vague statements like "A number of heavily & custom built Apple IIGS
'Wozniak' Edition computers " and "Over 4 000 plus disks on 5.25" &
3.50" software titles. (Too much too list)." just wont curt the
mustard. He needs to provide a full, itemised list of everything with
the condition of each item.

I have been watching Apple ][ stuff on eBay in Australia for 10+
years, and it has suddenly gotten very expensive - ever since Jobs
died, the prices have been increasing exponentially.

Just yesterday, a non-working, bare bones Apple //c with no cables,
disks, manuals, or anything else sold for $86 AUD. The same unit
would have sold for $10 six months ago. I was interested in it for
spare parts for my non-working Apple //c, but given it was also non-
working, I wasn't interested to the tune of $86.

Old Apple ][ games and disks are also going for crazy prices, even
disks of bootleg games.

It's suddenly become very hard to find a bargain ....
