Default Dead Transwarp GS?

I purchased this card some time ago and was assured that it was is
good condition and fully functional. I finally got around to looking
at it. On close inspection I am not even game to put it into my GS.
First of all PIN 21 on the CPU cable is missing and I am sure there is
some sort of chip missing from the top right hand corner of the card.
I have put hi-res photos of the card on my flickr account linked below
and would really like someone with experience with these things to
comment. I was told it has a 12 mhz upgrade and was a standard cache.

Well I think it's missing an oscillator in that socket. Those aren't
very hard to get. You should also have all the pins on the cable though,
so you'll need to either fix the one you got by replacing the crimp on
connector or get another cable. You could probably find someone here to
make you a new cable for $20.

For the TWGS to run at 12MHz, it'd need a 48MHz oscillator

It should be noted that Reactive Micro is on hiatus until next year(you
can find more on that on their main page) but it's a good place to get
an idea what you might need.

I agree, it looks like you need a new CPU cable and an oscillator. I
hav found it common that the oscillators falll out one messes with as
there is normally a zip tie around it. If someone was changing
oscillators they probably munges the canle taking it in and out. Both
issues are comman and should not be worysome.

The oscillator needs to be 4x the speed of the accelerator. I'd
recommend you get a few in the 24-40 range in case this card doesn't
tolerate much above the stock acceleration.

I probably still have a cable left, I'd need to dig as my collection
was scattered across many areas a few years back. And I may even have
an oscillator or two I could send your way if I find a cable. I swear
by my cables, others have raised concerns regarding reliability at
longer lengths I have made to allow it to be used in more slots. YMMV
contact me off list if interested.

you can also find them at any (real, not radio shack) electronics shop
for a couple bucks cheaper

If you're careful you can STILL use the cable that is on the
transwarp, all you need to do is CAREFULLY solder on to the end of the
connector (disconnect it from the transwarp before you try this) and
extend a few drops of solder from the pin enough to go in the socket.
I've repaired dip chips like this before on the //e and they've always
worked fine.
