Default //c rom upgrade success!

Thanks to Henry I was successful at upgrading my Rom 255 //c to Rom
4. Now just waiting for the flash memory drive to go into
production. :-D Thanks to Reactive (Henry) for an easy and hassle-
free upgrade experience!

Interesting that ROM04 works fine on a //c that doesn't have the
slinky hardware... I suppose it behaves no differently than a 'real'
ROM04 machine without a RAM card installed.

Well, the self-test rom routine passes and I can confirm that general
stuff still works -- I'm sure that any software looking for the ram
might get confused. It would be nice to mod the box to support more
ram. What does that entail? Piggy-backing the MMU and CPU or
something? I understand the basics of this but my hardware skills are
just good enough to summon magic smoke. :-D Anyway, I'm just waiting
in anticipation of SmartPortVHD so I can unleash my drive-less //gs
and this //c.

The RAM 'card' shows up as a block/smartport device so ProDOS or
Pascal while booting would initialise it regardless of if its fitted
or not.

Now that I think about it, the 4 I/O locations are probably just
floating on both a pre-memory expansion motherboard, and an expansion
motherboard that has no memory card fitted.

Yeah, Applied Engineering's Z-RAM cards did exactly this. I personally
prefer this style of memory expansion to the 'slinky' which is IMO
only easily usable as a RamDisk for most programming.
