Default Apple /// software

I recently acquired some Apple /// software, including the Apple ///
ProFILE driver disk, which is particularly useful because I have a
ProFILE.

Is it possible to read these (presumably SOS-formatted) Apple ///
floppies on my Apple II machines? Can I export them with an Apple II
into disk images using ADTPro?

When is someone going to write an Apple /// emulator for Windows?

They are, for all practical purposes, just like ProDOS disks, so all the
usual Apple II tools will work fine.

Yes. The underlying filesystem looks just like ProDOS. You can fool
with the images using CiderPress or however you normally treat Apple II
images. ADTPro can run either on your Apple II or /// so you don't
really need to bypass it if you don't want to.

Have you or any other used it successfully? How does it compare to
Sara?

BTW, building MESS is a mess. :-)

I use it to test /// software before transferring it to a real machine.
MESS doesn't let me use keyboard I/O, but it's ok for simple unit
testing. I use MESSUI together with the backend. I've not had to build
it myself yet, but maybe I could get the keyboard working that way...

In some respects it works better than Sara, in some respects worse. As I
understand, "Star Emulator" - I have to reacquire this disk image because
it isn't on my current computer nor any of my working ones, it's on one I
unsuccessfully transplanted and need to get working again - mostly works
on MESS but when I tried it on Sara - had to do it through emulation as I
don't own a Mac - it crashed, but it loaded the font, which it didn't do
on MESS.

I would be curious to know if A2Command works on an Apple ///.

If it needs more than a 48K ][+, it won't. (Though there may be a way to
rewrite ProDOS-8 to work with the ///'s bankswitching method instead of
that of the ][?)

I probably shouldn't promise things that are completely in the air,
but I'm planning to emulate the Apple /// in OpenEmulator after the
Apple IIc :-).

Marc.-

pd: I haven't yet written actual code, but the outline is already
quite developed.

I was hoping you'd say that. To have a truly robust /// emulator
would be awesome. It's a shame that the Sara source code is not
available in addition to MESS.

BTW, I got MESS working on my Mac, it was very easy to compile and
use. However it is a bit cumbersome and it's lacking a lot of
documentation (e.g. how to swap floppies).
