I have 2 Laser 128 ex's in their original box andI have never heard of
a separate boot disk for the Laser. I use Apples Prodos 8 v 1.9 and
Dos 3.3 on floppies and I also use a CFFA card in the external slot.

I finally got the laser out of the box and hooked up but I think it
may be bad. When I start it I get the basic copyright then it tries to
load a disk and since I don't have one it it gives me the error and
tells me to insert one and press CTRL reset.

Ok so holding down enter when turning it on brings up the same error
and then goes to the ML monitor prompt '*'. Pressing CTRL C and enter
takes me to the basic prompt ']', but no matter what it type it will
beep after I hit enter and go back to the ML prompt.

Is this normal? The last time I used an apple 2 was 30 years ago in
10th grade. I used to know a lot about he,, now not as much I appears.

Replying to myself because I figured I'd explain it.

The Laser monitor, while very different under the hood from Apple's, uses
the same commands as Apple's. On Apple's monitor, Ctrl-C does a "warm
restart" of BASIC by jumping to $E003, and Ctrl-B does a "cold restart" by
jumping to $E000.

If Applesoft BASIC hasn't had a chance to initialize itself, then when you
hit Enter, it tries to execute code that hasn't been placed in
memory...and therefore it hits a BRK and crashes back into the monitor.
This is why you have to use Ctrl-B.

Thanks Steve, CTRL B worked. Have a few keys that I need to clean,
have to bang them hard to get a response, wonder if they just pop
off?

What diskettes does this take? DSDD?

Dunno, haven't used a Laser 128 since 1996.

Yeah. You get 140K per side, - the drive's only single-sided.

And it only needs SD disks, so SSSD would work, or anything
better, as long as it isn't HD.
