Default Amazon for Apple II

I am trying to get the NIB images of Amazon, an adventure game from
1985, running in AppleWin, and I'm having no success. I have been
able to load the initial screen that lists the telephone number for
the old BBS of the guy who made the disks copy-able, which is off of
Side 3/Volume 3. However, when I then press a key, it just hangs. It
also gives me an error message if I swap sides at that screen and
prior to pressing a key.

Anyone ever gotten this one working?

I'm trying to get it running because an old computer magazine talks
about the game and that piqued my curiosity.

Try this version:

http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/amazon

It's on one 3.5" disk as opposed to multiple 5.25" disks. Don't know
how 8-bit Apple II emulators deal with 2images though.

The quest for more 8-bit stuff on 3.5" disk continues...check out the
complete current listing for games:

http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.z...s-on-3-5-disk/

and for educational software:

http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.z...l-on-3-5-disk/

Thank you, though I really do want to get it working on the 5.25"
version, at least this should allow me to play it.

By the way, where is the link to Amazon on your menu system? There
doesn't seem to be a link to the page containing Amazon, and there
also doesn't seem to be a link for the "8-bit educational on 3.5"
disk" page unless one digs through the "NEWS" page. Am I missing one
of the software menu pages?

Works fine for me. I'm using AppleWin 1.20.0.0 on Windows XP, and the
disk images I'm using are from /pub/apple_II/images/games/adventure/
amazon on Asimov.

Yup, and it's working for me too.

What I'm wondering about is why there's no link to Amazon on the menu
page: http://whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/adventure-games

Maybe an oversight? But I'm wondering mainly because maybe there are
other programs that never got added to the menu?

Wait, I'm sorry, I thought that you were talking about the 3.5"
version that Alex referenced.

I'm getting the 3.5" version working. I am NOT getting the 5.25"
version from Amazon working.

How did you get it to boot past the initial screen? Do you just leave
Disk/Side 3 in?

Is it possible to access whatisthe2gs via ftp? I've tried, but all I
get is a login screen. Is there a generic public login?

The 5.25" version, from the Asimov FTP site (amazon1 through
amazon4.nib.gz) is what I am using. I just left Disk 3 in.

I'm using Applewin 1.20 but I'm not getting anything past the initial
BBS list screen. Do I have to convert the NIB file into another
format?

Just figured it out. Apparently it won't work if a hard disk
controller is enabled in Slot 7.
