Hello Dear Readers,

My name is Manan aka iMav (the ‘i‘ can be figured out why), the owner of the domain & blog Strider asked me whether i would like to be the Editor of a Mac blog; at first i was a bit hesitant to accept it as I’m not a big fan of Apple & specially some of their products for apparent reasons (which you will come across in some posts of mine) but then i thought about it and said to myself that it is a good challenge for me.

Through this blog i will try to bring to you the latest that is happening in the world of Apple from a user perspective - some one who is more of a technology and gadget lover than a fanboy of a particular brand, in this case Apple.

Be rest assured that you will be seeing Apple products from a different perspective, there is a reason why Im also called The Devil’s Advocate.

Thank you & happy reading!

MacBookAs rumored, Apple has quietly updated the MacBook tonight to the Santa Rosa architecture with mild speed bumps and the GMA X3100 integrated video.

Despite comparable clock speeds (2.0 -> 2.0GHz, 2.16 -> 2.2GHz) to the old models, the new MacBooks use the Santa Rosa chipset which boasts a faster 800MHz front side bus over the previous MacBook models. The introduction of the GMA X3100 video card also provides significant benefits over the previous models. The new specs can be seen at the Apple Store.

This is the price range according to the latest update in the apple store:

White 13.3"
$1099.00 2.0GHz/1GB RAM/80GB/Combo/GMA X3100
$1299.00 2.2GHz/1GB RAM/120GB/SD-DL/GMA X3100

Black 13.3″
$1499.00 2.2GHz/1GB RAM/160GB/SD-DL/GMA X3100

Apple’s product pages on the rest of the site had not yet been updated at the time of this writing. The new MacBooks appeared in Apple Retail stores on Wednesday, but the boxes were accompanied by instructions not to open them until further notice.

iTunesA new version of Apple Inc.’s iTunes media software due as early as next week will deliver a number of small refinements, but is not expected to introduce any major new features, AppleInsider has learned.

Due for release as iTunes 7.5, the software update will offer increased stability and better management of duplicate song and video entries, people familiar with the matter say.

Apple also hopes the new version will ease troubles faced by some iTunes Store customers while attempting to upgrade certain standard iTunes tracks to iTunes Plus versions.

Users of the current version of iTunes have experienced an issue where iTunes Plus upgrades cause the software to hang indefinitely following data downloads, eventually requiring a force quit.

iTunes 7.5 will simultaneously be made available for users of Microsoft’s XP and Vista Widnows operating systems and include better troubleshooting methods.

The software is currently in late beta and targeted for a release within the next week, as it is also expected to bundle support for the UK and German versions of iPhone. However, those familiar with the matter say plans for critical software releases such as iTunes are often subject to change, which could push the release out by a few additional days.

Nonetheless, iTunes 7.5 should be available by mid-month at the latest.

Just found this interesting article @ Wired.com. It’s quoting top 15 quotes on apple and it’s products by various celebs and techies and off course proved dumpest of all time!

It’s easy to dump ire on anlysts for getting it wrong so often. What those guys do, however, is provide a particular service to particular people. Interpreting what analysts say in terms of truth or falsity is to forget the real lesson we should take from Prof. Frankfurt: words build worlds.

Here is two of the top predictions:

The iMac Will Fail

“The iMac will only sell to some of the true believers. The iMac doesn’t include a floppy disk drive drive for doing file backups or sharing of data. It’s an astonishing lapse from Jobs, who should have learned better… the iMac is clean, elegant, floppy-free–and doomed.” — Hiawatha Bray in the Boston Globe, 1998.

Give the Money Back

“I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.” — Michael Dell in October 1997,as an immediate prelude to a renaissance that would see Apple ultimately eclipse Dell in size.

Apple provides a fix for its iMac and updates its MacBook notebooks. The root cause of the freezes was traced back to the drivers used for the ATI Radeon HD graphics cards included with the iMacs.

“A small number of iMac users have made us aware that a recent software update issued by Apple can sometimes cause their iMacs to freeze, requiring them to restart their iMac,” said an Apple spokesman in October.

“We are tracking down the root cause of this bug, and will issue a software update which corrects it as soon as we can — most likely later this month.”

Apple didn’t reach their October estimate for releasing the update, but it’s doubtful that many will complain that the update is available a few days into the month of November. The update is listed as “recommended” and is for 20″ and 24″ iMacs with 2GHz, 2.4GHz and 2.8GHz processors.

Apple has two separate updates available for download: iMac Software Update 1.2 for Tiger and iMac Software Update 1.3 for Leopard.
